Design competition for a 400 bed tertiary hospital for the Qatary armed forces,
This was part of a design-built proposal submitted by CCC contractors. The hospital designers have taken to account for Military Medical Center vision of functioning as the Center of Excellence where a patient has ‘one-stop’ to seek an all-inclusive interdisciplinary treatment plan. The Military Medical Center has been conceptualized into a main hospital podium housing all diagnostic and treatment services with two towers with glass façade to take advantage of Qatar’s year-round day-light for patient healing and recovery benefits. The first tower constitutes Phase 1 (250 beds) due to its proximal location. The second tower is directly adjacent to the main podium clinical services building providing a great opportunity to construct Phase 2 (150 beds) at a later date minimizing disruption to main campus during construction. The vital vertical circulation core is situated as the backbone connecting the two towers in order to allow a direct and easy connection when phase two is implanted into the main body.
Design Concept
One of the best things in life is listening to someone’s heartbeat and knowing that the person is alive and well. The special sound was one of the first healthcare lessons we learned as children and carried throughout our lives. Everyone from all around the world can relate to the unique beat, the unique rhythm that has been romanticized in literature and poetry for thousands of years. The P, QRS, and T Waveforms that create the ECG wave were designed into the Outpatient Clinic Canopy. It serves as a reminder that every patient and caregiver is connected to the heartbeat of the world and MMC stands as a Center of Excellence providing the best quality of care for patients to hear their heartbeat and feel comfort that they are alive and well.

Hospital Design Concept
The Hospital designer got his intuition of the design from the jet propeller of the military aircrafts, the balconies are immolating the Jet propeller blades.
One of the aims of the hospital designer was to create a statement that this hospital is directly related to the air force and aviation.
The other aim or challenge of the hospital designer was to incorporate the whole spectrum of hospital services including the specialized aviation medical services such as gyro lab, hyperbaric chamber in a creative, human and friendly hospital design.
